The Grieving
-----
There’s probably nothing worse than not being able to grieve without others pressing your tragedy up against your face. Mother talking about how this child might have been the first (she hesitates but says girl while she wanted to say boy, but Koyoko knows what she truly meant) boy in the family, Masashi’s mother mourning horribly about how her son contributed to the loss of the child, and Masashi’s comatose state, with Toshio appearing to touch her tummy. It’s a definite rough patch emotionally, and Koyoko, I thought, externally shows a numbness that is more or less the genuine response expected when tragedy does strike so suddenly.
