Goodbye, Jamie. Goodbye, Laurie.

Jamie Lee Curtis wrapped on her final Halloween film. This is it. I was on the horror subreddit when someone brought this up. I just felt timing is good to put an end to the Laurie Strode and Michael Myers characters and leave Haddonfield for good. I think John Carpenter is ready to put this officially behind him as well.

I get that as long as there are rabid fans clamoring for more Halloween films, the franchise will continue to get some sort of coat of paint. But Laurie Strode's departure feels right. I saw her first onset photo and Jamie Lee looked tired. I bet you she was ready to say goodbye to the part. Who wouldn't be after this amount of time. "Halloween Ends" follows a really polarizing second film that left a portion of the fanbase really dissatisfied. So I do hope Jamie Lee's final film as this character leaves a majority of the fanbase satisfied. I recognize after watching "Texas Chainsaw 2022" that perhaps these tired franchises deserve retirement. But I'm no fool: if studios need them, those tired franchises will be wheelchaired out of their rooms despite probably begging to stay. Money enamors folks in the film industry and fanbases are loyal, for better or worse. And I was completely honest on the subreddit: I'll keep watching them, no matter how poorly made they are. That is my weakness: I am a horror fan who will continue to contribute to the very shockpaddles that resuscitate these franchises that have been hanging on for dear life, the machines keep pumping them with whatever bolts can ring out just a bit more interest. And judging by how Halloween seems to be very popular -- there will be yet another "Scream" movie coming soon, too -- I guess in a few years Hollywood will try and revive the corpse and see if this resurrection can bring in the big bucks.

But as far as Jamie Lee goes, I continue to return to her early horror period before "Trading Places" took her on a different career course, and appreciate her contribution to the character of Laurie Strode and the genre that I truly love. I know there are anti-Laurie/anti-Jamie Halloween fans out there. I'm one of her devotees and salute one last run.
