The Vampire Diaries - Do not Go Gentle
So it's the third season and the gang is still in high school. Still. There is another dance. Yes, another one. And Elena invites Stefan to the dance. So those two again at the rekindling phase. On again and off. Rinse and repeat. Soap opera plotting in modern gothic. Once again googly eyes and sexual tension as the two meet again at Elena's door.
And Tyler is jealous of Klaus and his interest in Caroline. The 20s theme dance is certain to bring fireworks and schmaltz.
Esther arrives and informs Elena she will come with her voluntarily or not, with salt as forcefield keeping Stefan and Damon from following. Esther was there when Alaric would briefly die and pass to the other side, telling Elena that she'll turn him into the greatest vampire hunter. Will Elena be able to keep Alaric from going truly dark, too far to reach escape.
Klaus didn't realize Esther took Becka's body to trick him, and the salt kept him at the dance. Klaus isn't happy about Caroline choosing Tyler over him, even threatening Bonnie's friends' lives if she doesn't have a spell conjured to counteract the boundary spell.
Esther wants the vampires all gone, believing her handiwork in their creation can be once and for all corrected.
Klaus loves to stir the pot, mocking the Salvatore brothers with Elena. Eventually he walks away, planning to take Elena with him out of town because she is needed so he can continue to sire.
Alaric realizes after taking Elena's blood and the magic stake to his body, he must kill Esther and not take the transition to vampire because the darkness as human was worse enough. This but of drama, complete with Jeremy having to say goodbye as the cast looks in morosely, has the weepy pop music accompanying it. Lots of sad eyes.
Klaus tells the corpse of his mother she'll never defeat him. He will create an army. He says that with great ferocity.
Matt and Jeremy hang out at the grille, Elena agonizing about Alaric's fate gets Stefan to sweet talk her on the debris-covered dance floor, and Caroline assures Tyler he's her man. Bonnie and Jamie, of course, sleep together. But Esther isn't remotely finished...and Bonnie will do her bidding. Alaric will be her vampire weapon, with Bonnie's blood. Nothing Damon could even do about that. 2.5/5
