Halloween 5 - The Damned Barn, Tina, and the Clown Music Cops
The Tina character I can only imagine will infuriate plenty
of viewers. I always felt particularly annoyed when she leaves Jamie after the
police round her up for the clinic after she literally rode to a store for a
pack of smokes with Michael Myers (…in the ghoul mask meant for her dead
boyfriend, driving the sweet jet-black ride, his gloved hands gripping the
steering wheel with great intensity).
That scene in the car with Michael is a series bonus for
fans as before this sequel who would have ever guessed or bet Tina would make
it out of that alive? She kisses the mask and Michael’s eyes blaze a hate
towards her I think resonates. Shanks, to his credit, brings his own unique
take to Michael, giving us a very visual silent rage inside that car, behind
that wheel, hitting the brakes when Tina presses him to stop the car and let
her gets the smokes at the gas station with the cartoon sign of the girl with “cookie
boobs” on the wall. This was a narrow escape but few get more than one in the
Halloween series.
Jamie just begging for Tina to stay, and, with tears even,
can’t get her to. Tina’s bound and determined to go to the party. And the cops
won’t be able to save her this time. I think you can sense that, too, when she
leaves Jamie as the little girl beckons and pleads for her not to go. Jamie had
already lost Rachel, and no matter how much she wanted to protect Tina, Michael
is almost always there. So what does Jamie do? She goes to Tower Farm where the
party is…and where Michael will certainly be.
If the Friday films hadn’t featured a barn enough, “Halloween
V” can’t help but join the fray. Tina agrees to go into the barn with Sammie
and her boyfriend, Spitz. Sammie, in a devil costume, I’m sure brought up a lot
of naughty thoughts back in the day. Too bad Spitz and Sammie chose the barn on
the worst night possible to get laid. Not before playing a trick, with Tina, on
two boob cops with accompanying clown music, assured to make many a viewer
cringe. Some may enjoy that, I guess. The barn is an eerie enough place at
night with enough moonlight to give it light while still containing plenty of
dark corners and spaces for Michael to emerge when ready to intrude upon sexy
time with a pitchfork and scythe. Too bad Tina didn’t get her chance
considering Michael buried a pronged hook into the noggin of her wannabe-cool
noob, Mike. Loomis sent the clown music cops, with their go-fish cards, to
protect Tina…might as well filled out the coroner’s report for all three, what
good that decision done. Tina goes and finds her friends and police dead,
realizing that Jamie and Loomis both tried and failed to convince her that
Michael was out there and she was in danger.
