Night Gallery - The Nature of the Enemy
Joseph Campanella stars in “The Nature of the Enemy” as a
NASA moon landing head of operations, sending crews to learn of a loss of
communication after a previous mission failed to return contact/communications,
discovering a giant platform one of the reporters (memorable television character
actor, Jason Wingreen) mentions looks like a mouse trap. So what has happened
to the missing astronauts? A video camera left on the moon soon reveals the “enemy”…a
giant mouse! Some will find that funny, others perhaps cringe-worthy. Written
by Serling, clearly as a rib for nothing more than a grin. Cool to see the moon
missions brought back by Serling since The Twilight Zone was such a platform
for all things space and its mysteries. 2/5
*This was included at the tail end of the episode featuring "Room with a View" and "The Little Black Bag", not necessarily meant to be anything more than straight-faced scifi with a crazy twist at the end. I read that "Room with a View" was not syndicated with "The Little Black Bag" and "The Nature of the Enemy", added to a completely different episode. "The Nature of the Enemy" is a bit better than anything Laird ever included to Night Gallery, if that's saying something.
