A Final Thought at 3AM - Halloween (1978)

I would be remiss if I didn't mention this wonderful moment late in the viewing of Halloween (1978) Monday evening before bedtime where my boy happened to be on his knees in the floor deeply involved as Laurie uses the hanger in the closet and knife dropped by Michael during his injury. She sends Lindsey and Tommy out of the house to get help, and Michael is seemingly toast on the floor. Before Loomis shoots The Shape at the end he leans up and my son drops his head into his lap and goes, "Oh, no! Oh, no!" It was beautiful. I said to myself, "Still got it." This reminded me of a memory my aunt shared with me about a similar experience she had with Halloween (1978) probably around 1979 or 1980. That very scene plays out. Michael/Shape out seemingly dead on the floor, then rising up and turning his head, still on his ass but robotically moving to his feet before approaching Laurie. My aunt was so freaked out by it she threw her popcorn all over the living room floor! So 40 years later and my son is similarly jarred by Michael rising up and approaching an unaware Laurie. Loomis and some carefully aimed shots made sure The Shape at least went out the window. Even if his breath ominously, omnipresently leaves its imprint in all the places The Shape haunted Halloween night 1978.
