Silent Night Deadly Night (1984) - Classic Christmas Archive

Billy(Robert Brian Wilson)sees his parents murdered by a psycho in a Santa suit and is deeply traumatized. His youth at an orphanage ran by Mother Superior(Lilyan Chauvin)isn't much better as she believes that his inner torment regarding the occurrences on that fateful night can be eradicated through tough discipline, but instead such mistreatment only aggravates his mental problem. The Christmas season, and especially the symbol of Santa Claus, increases Billy's paranoia and pain. He leaves the orphanage for work at a department store and is called on to portray Santa Claus when the employee who normally does the job is hurt ice-skating. One night, when a love-interest of Billy's is being raped, the night his mother was violently raped and killed by the psycho creeps into his subconscious. Along with Mother Superior's words of bad people being punished as a must, he "becomes" the psycho that murdered his family. Billy leads a violent rampage of death in his wake with the ultimate goal to reach..the very orphanage where Mother Superior resides. Sister Margaret(Gilmer McCormick)is the only one who really shows Billy care and warmth..she will have to find Billy before he reaches the orphanage or else a violent wave could spring against innocent children.

Memorable scene where cult icon Linnea Quigley is "antlered" and a poor kid is beheaded while sledding down a snowy hill. Many various weaponry are used such as a box-cutter, bow-and-arrow, hammer, string of Christmas lights, and an ax. Very mean film is quite violent and unpleasant. It is technically well made and the print I watched was an unrated cut considered the complete realization of the film. There was slight discoloration, but overall it was a smooth transition from scene to scene. It is still just a slasher flick only the killer is in a Santa suit.
