I imagine some would consider Silent Rage (1982) a bit of a stretch for the Slasher Summer Series 2013, but after re-visiting it last night (and watching the last bit today), I do think it qualifies; in fact, I think it more than qualifies. Certainly Norris' involvement in a slasher film will provide Silent Rage with curiosity value, but this film is a hybrid if there ever was one.

  1. "but this film is a hybrid if there ever was one."

No kidding! Action picture, sci-fi thriller, horror movie.Definitely not a slasher, in my view, but it does rip off nearly every physical element of HALLOWEEN, right down to getting an actor to play the killer (Brian Libby) who looks like the Myers' mask, and fixing his hair to mirror it.

The director, Michael Miller, started with Roger Corman (his second Corman picture was JACKSON COUNTY JAIL, which made Tommy Lee Jones). He only made five features (of which this was the last), then spent the rest of his career in television. The writer, Joseph Fraley, only wrote this and the Chuck's earlier GOOD GUYS WEAR BLACK (always loved that title, and the poster). Years ago, I came across the assertion that he wrote a novelization for SILENT RAGE, but I've never found it anywhere.

  2. I saw Halloween all throughout several moments. I have been trying to get my final touches on the review. I also followed up Silent Rage with a Bruce Lee flick with Chuck called Return of the Dragon I plan to drop on the ole blog in the coming days.
