Dark Shadows - Episode 265
Enter Dr. Julia Hoffman. Grayson Hall joins the cast of Dark Shadows initially as Maggie's doctor at the hospital, looking to help her (or possibly, her motives seem unclear as she acts a bit suspiciously) recover from this mental break that has reverted her to the mind of a little girl. Sam is dying to see his daughter while Dr. Woodard encourages him against it, knowing the Maggie he wants to visit might not be there. But Dr. Hoffman isn't communicating with either Dr. Woodard or Sam so that is reason enough for both of them to wonder about Maggie's condition. But Sam and Joe find a Maggie who is so lost to them, her mental breakdown so severe that their presence there appears to be a hindrance rather than help.
Dr. Hoffman warned them against visiting her, having experienced quite a trial herself in getting through to Maggie. Maggie just seems to get out "London Bridges" and won't even address Joe or Sam, seemingly afraid of them. Hoffman discusses with Woodard the value of letting her work with Maggie uninterrupted. Dr. Hoffman calls for time and Sam is so broken-hearted, he just wants to leave. The episode ends with Dr. Hoffman returning to Maggie, flashlight in eyes and hoping her patient will remember her name.
The basics of the episode is to diagnose just how bad off Maggie's mental state is. If Hoffman wants to help her remains to be seen. It would appear Hoffman might have other ulterior motives we just don't know yet. But who Dr. Hoffman is and what is truly motivating her in the case of Maggie is still, at this point, up for debate. Still, who can blame Sam for wanting to see his daughter? Or who could blame Sam for hoping the daughter he knows and loves returns to him safe and sound? We all know, though, that Barnabas is out there, so will Maggie ever be truly safe and sound?
