For only the second time did I revisit Slaughterhouse (1987; shot in the summer of 1986), this time available on Tubi. The first time was on IFC, of all places. Definitely of the Texas Chainsaw family, I was shocked this was mostly shot in California. It looks like it was shot in Texas, the Midwest, or rural South. I sometimes forget this is a big country. Anyway big Buddy, mostly with pigs in their cages, carrying around his cleaver (something that seemed to find its way off the set of "The Road Warrior"), doesn't like young adult trespassers on his butcher daddy's property, oinking and growling, swinging his sharp blade right into heads. His Dad has been driven off the deep end by a lawyer who betrayed him with bad advice, a sheriff who delivered bad news that his property (including a shut-down and degrading abattoir) was being taken by the county due to unpaid taxes, and a business adversary whose mechanized assembly meat cutting process put him out of business. The business rival plans to buy his property and expand his factory on it...a real slap in the face. When the teenage (well twenty year old actors starring as teens) camcorder movie locals arrive to goof off when lightning interrupts their radio sponsored dance party. The giant with crushing hug and hands not only uses his cleaver as a weapon. Daddy gets in on the fun, too. Plenty of bodies hanging from meat hooks.
4th of July 2025 Marathoning
McDowell and Comi prepare to leave for Mars. Aliens visiting the UN, dropping off their cook book, providing goodies for humans on Earth, easing them into trusting them, spiriting them away to be food for them on their home planet. To Serve Man is nearly 60 years ago. I've been watching Twilight Zone since I was a teenager in the mid 90s thanks to Sci Fi Channel. Many of my family have passed since (for instance, my mother's siblings are all about gone except one last sister), and it wouldn't be right to avoid a marathon during the 4th if just for nostalgic reasons. Syfy didn't see the value of TZ on Independence Day, except last year, so even though I cannot watch episodes like I do during New Year's Eve and Day, it is nice to try and sneak in a block of episodes whenever possible. I started with Death Ship from the fourth season, continuing with Stopover in a Quiet Town and The Gift . To Serve Man would feel like a later afternoon watch but SYFY showed it at 3:...
