Goodbye Camp
Yeah, so I thought I might throw together a brief write-up about "Unhappy Campers", the comedy slasher sequel to "Sleepaway Camp" (1983). Then I noticed I already wrote way, way more about it back in 2013. It just doesn't deserve multiple paragraphs and I just can't devote so much energy, creative or otherwise to it again. In a nutshell it remains a cult favorite a niche slasher fandom loves while just as many consider it a lot of nonsense that has this crazed lunatic released from the asylum not at all cured. I mean she pretty much annihilates an entire camp of people, the teenagers (saying that snickering), adult counselors, and even some kids (two boys always taking Polaroids of naked gals). The film orchestrates this by having her surprise and startle her victims never anticipating that Angela (Pam Springsteen) is a psycho triggered by the sin of others. Besides the homage to Freddy, Jason, and Leather face, the absurd methods of death built to shock and roll eyes (and entertain it's vocal supporters), and the abandoned shack deep in the woods that houses all the many corpses rotting with flies we do get plenty of Valerie Hartman. Hartman and her missing shirt and bra provide plenty, not to mention, she offers a simulated sex scene I'm certain surfaced and stayed on the minds of many who rented the videotape in late '88, all of '89, and the 90s. She really gets into it. I mean with full orgasmic body movement. Her moaning and how she rides, with the gyrating, Hartman's Ally gave a guy also at camp these five minutes of pleasure I don't want to forget. Phew, I'm sure fans like reliving it, too. But, for fuck sake, she gets the most humiliating death in a slasher film. Shoved in an outhouse after being stabbed in the back, her head stuffed in shit, drowned in a toilet while Angela pokes her with a stick and leeches cover her face!
