Battlestar Galactica - End of the Third Season

because I just have life issues (at one point during the early part of the week the phrase “life fatigue” sort of popped to mind) like anyone else (the usual home financial problems like outside and inside plumbing and nagging tree roots), interference with blog posts is expected. I actually watched the final four episodes of the third season of Battlestar Galactica (“Maelstrom”, “The Son Also Rises”, & “Crossroads” Parts 1 and 2) in one evening. I had held onto the Blu-Ray of the season way too long, not on purpose but time goes by and you realize that you have to get on with it. Just the same, an incredible way to bookend a mostly successful third season. I thought, particularly, Starbuck’s arc takes a neat turn and the revelation that Tigh, Tyrol, Sam, and Roslin’s assistant, Tory, are the actual mysterious secret Cylons (!!!) was an incredible shock that left me gobsmacked. Tigh, the alcoholic right hand of Admiral Adama, tortured by Cavill on New Caprica, having influenced...

iZombie - Filleted to Rest

Filleted to Rest has some nice character moments and I was glad the detective case (an unbearable head chef, known in her classy restaurant as brilliant but monstrous is found with shrink wrap around her head, later determined to have died because of blunt-force trauma caused by frozen steak!) assisted them. The brain Liv eats is difficult because the chef was a cipher, her words and personality abusive, corrosive, and bossy. So when Liv tries to operate outside the case that brain can cause her to be an asshole to others. Ravi avoids her while Clive, much to his credit, seems capable of evasively maneuvering around her mistreatment and insults (a police officer in the office nervously prepares her coffee). Michelle, pregnant and moved into Clive’s old position for the time being, has a minor accident on what should have been an easy, non-violent assignment…in the hospital she informs him he’s most likely not the father of her child, although she recognizes him as such, included a...

Jessica Jones - Three Lives and Counting

Image
Is there no crime Jessica Jones won’t commit to get what she wants? I’m trading banter with a delusion. With all of Jessica’s plans, it is her friends that ultimately serve as her undoing. Karl’s compulsion to see “it through”, with Trish pushing the right buttons in order to get him to attempt to perfect his super experiments on her, it all goes to shit. Jessica just wanted Karl out of the picture, her mom in a prison where she needs to be, and Trish rehabbed from her addiction to the IGH drug. Malcolm, just wanting to work with Jessica to do something significant with their Alias Investigations, has inadvertently helped Trish undermine everything set up by the likes of Jeri and Jessica. At the end of the episode, the old warehouse where IGH was up to no good goes up in flames after multiple explosions, Karl is dead, and Trish is in a hospital ER recovering from needles injected into her back by the scientist she hoped would provide with her with powers similar to her “sis...

Jessica Jones - Pork Chop

Image
There is a hole in our soul…Let’s not use each other to fill it. Trish’s descent continues. Pork Chop has her seducing Malcolm during her struggle coming down from the IGH drug Will Sampson left behind in his inhaler that heightened her senses, bringing her closer to Jessica. This is addressed in perhaps my favorite scene, when Trish visits Alisa (in a highly secure prison) wanting Karl’s whereabouts so she can (according to her) break the appropriate story, but Alisa sees through the ruse. What motivates everything is Trish’ desire to secure more of the super-drug, and Karl is the key to replenishing her supply. Jessica spends the episode trying to find out where Karl is so she can initiate an escape to South America, getting lover / artist, Oscar, to prepare and create a fake passport. But she needs Alisa to sign documents that will assure a confession about IGH, Karl’s whereabouts, the whole shebang. Jessica doesn’t want Alisa to land in a “superhero prison”, called The Raf...
