Game of Thrones -- Tyrion - O Lucky Man
I had an entire elaborate review planned but it ain’t happening. Tyrion, who gets clubbed before being able to lead barbarians against 2000 of Robb’s men “on the Vanguard”, mentions to his new love-mate, Shae, that he’s often been lucky. I think that is an honest assessment of Tyrion throughout Game of Thrones as he escapes astonishingly one perilous situation after another. In prisons, facing judgments in court, surrounded by cutthroats, his own father and sister always plotting to be rid of him (Tywin put him on the frontlines and is there to look down upon him as he awakens from the blow to his head, caused by a soldier’s mallet!), strategically outthinking and outwitting many who would do away with him; Tyrion circumventing death over and over is one of those “fate is on your side” remarkable achievements…one does wonder how many lives he has left. He mentions to Shae (a game he plays where he must drink if he cannot guess her past due to being a “good judge of character” doesn’t go according to plan) that he once was tricked by his father in regards to a prostitute paid by Tywin to seduce him and then fuck multiple guys in front of him after “their premature betrothal”. She was an “innocent running from rapists” a particularly cruel prank meant by Tywin to torment his son. Tywin takes delight in this. The Lannisters are quite a family, aren’t they? Just a pleasant bunch of assholes.
...from the episode, "Baelor".
Bron, Tyrion's sarcastic sellsword, joins Shae and Tyrion, waking up his master after a fun night of sex with his new lady to inform him that Robb's men (only 2,000 of 20,000) were moving unexpectedly, has a great dialogue piece in the episode. While a swordman at Tyrion's side, he's also not just an aid, but a friend. Shae, later learned to be Tywin's secret lover and betrayer of Tyrion's trust, is introduced in this episode. She's got a great presence about her, an enigmatic mystery about her...as intended.
