Battlestar Galactica - Scattered
In this fantastic opening to the second season, exciting subplots and
developments featuring multiple characters abound including a very
suspenseful pursuit of a missing fleet and the Cylon threat towards
penetrating the BG's network mainframe through the layers of firewall
protections. Tigh's memories with Adama growing up as young officers
corresponding with his ongoing/ensuing duties as a substitute command
leader while his beloved friend and boss remains in critical condition
after serious surgery due to severe wounds caused by Sharon are
incorporated effectively. Having to determine how to locate the fleet by
jumping back to their original coordinates, depending on Lt. Gaeta's
expertise to secure them while Apollo (released momentarily to lead
Raptors against Cylon attack ships) remains a prisoner for siding in
favor of President Roslin opposite his own father's "ruling" that she
would be "stripped" of her title; Tigh has a load heaped upon him with
very little time to recover from the shock of his friend's shooting and
preparation to take command under such short notice.
So you have this major skirmish going on outside of the BG while Adama is being surgically "repaired", Gaeta trying to get the coordinates of the fleet that remain in a different location due to not jumping where the Galactica did, and Tigh trying to harness his emotions due to obvious concern and lingering ill will towards the likes of Roslin and Apollo (especially Sharon, entering her brig cell, giving this Cylon a few strikes for what she did to Adama, deciding not to kill her). Of course Tigh's wife makes an effort to inject the thought of him assuming command, capitalizing on the situation by proving himself...Tigh is in no mood for her antics.
Sure enough, despite the conflicting feelings regarding how Adama would respond to Gaeta's request to jump back, Tigh is successful, recovering the fleet and making sure the BG makes it out of the Cylon threat in one piece. Despite Tigh's past where he was a mess on Caprica, seemingly not fit for nothing, Adama gave him the chance to be a Captain and eventually his right hand on the BG.
On Kobol, while Baltar is lost in his time spent with Helfer, introduced to his child with her supposedly, Tyrol and Cally lose an officer while on a mission to recover much needed medical supplies as Crashdown tries to find a safe place for them to relocate thanks to Cylon fire (hidden behind trees and brush, camouflaged by the wilderness) and danger from the skies. They hope the BG will recover them, but the situation appears quite dire. Either injured by the crash on Kobol or enduring fire from them hiding, the crew sure has their hands full. Tyrol having to cautiously nudge Crashdown, technically his superior, remains a necessary nuisance.
On Caprica Starbuck is in no mood for Helo's protectiveness of Sharon, wanting to blow that Cylon away. But Helo persistently defies her, believing Sharon isn't like the other Cylons, telling Starbuck she's pregnant with his child. Losing her ship to a Cylon who takes off in it, Starbuck is seemingly trapped now on Caprica, leaving her unable to return with the arrow to Roslin.
4.5/5
