The Girlfriend Experience - Insurance
*** / ****
Christine in this episode to me reveals the most of an emotional side of herself. I can only assume that will eventually change the longer she caters to the GFE way of business in her life. I think when having sex with Michael, and later David, she still *feels* something.
Michael is weathered, wealthy, and enjoying what time he has left with a beautiful young woman bought for a certain fee, giving her access to his affection and yacht. I genuinely believe she truly likes spending time with him. Sure her job is to tell clients she likes being with them but I think Michael is that client demanding little except for a bit of sex and more of her presence in his company.
Michael dies much to Christine's shock when out in the city. The episode plays a trick on us. Christine and Michael go for a swim outside the city and she emerges as he doesn't. Back on the yacht she continues to look for him, calling out his name. Eventually his head pops up from the drink okay. This appears to be the typical television show death scene. But his cardiac arrest isn't caused by her or swimming but elsewhere. It's a clever swerve.
Being involved in a will as Chelsea, Christine would have to give up her real identity in order to inherit. A widower, Michael felt something for Chelsea obviously. His family, though, might have a problem with that.
Meanwhile Christine desires David, even approaching him in his car. He gets her transferred to a different attorney during her internship at Kirkland & Allen. Still her allure is too much for David to resist. Later they do have sex in his home away from home. He clearly has too much going on including the announcement that he will be promoted, much to rival Erin's chagrin. And David is struggling in his marriage and could be in collusion with a friend outside his firm, later realized by Christine.
There's an ingenious recognition of a recording during David and Christine's intimacy. The red dot and later a guy entering this apartment to snatch what could be a camera...the direction emphasizes secrets and the potential of them being revealed. Christine also has a recording on her phone, listening intently at what David's communicating to who should be an adversary.
