McDowell and Comi prepare to leave for Mars.  Aliens visiting the UN, dropping off their cook book, providing goodies for humans on Earth, easing them into trusting them, spiriting them away to be food for them on their home planet. To Serve Man is nearly 60 years ago. I've been watching Twilight Zone since I was a teenager in the mid 90s thanks to Sci Fi Channel. Many of my family have passed since (for instance, my mother's siblings are all about gone except one last sister), and it wouldn't be right to avoid a marathon during the 4th if just for nostalgic reasons. Syfy didn't see the value of TZ on Independence Day, except last year, so even though I cannot watch episodes like I do during New Year's Eve and Day, it is nice to try and sneak in a block of episodes whenever possible. I started with Death Ship from the fourth season, continuing with Stopover in a Quiet Town and The Gift . To Serve Man would feel like a later afternoon watch but SYFY showed it at 3:...

"I take the blood of others inside me...into my blood." Blood tastes...dangerous. It's sweet and thick. Leave it to me to return to vampires even when reviewing The X Files. It has its significance, though. A couple weeks ago, I was up watching The X Files while going through another bout of insomnia, and the double feature of Duane Barry and Ascension were on, leading to Scully’s disappearance (she was pregnant and left to have her daughter, Piper), as Mulder goes through a separation crisis. Without the X Files and Scully, Mulder was just lost. Mulder had been aware of a series of vampire cult murders, a trio of deaths left in both Portland and Memphis (three people dead in each city, their body drained of blood, certain writing in blood on the walls near their corpses, both bite and hypodermic marks on the bodies), traveling to Los Angeles when it appears this city is the next stop. Hemlock Grove - The Order of the Dragon

Something I have noticed since watching GLOW and Hemlock Grove, Netflix official series, is the indie movie aesthetic that they adhere to. There are the long distance shots where mise en scène seems very important. I have noticed the way Patrick and Roman are often lensed, for instance. One such scene has Patrick visiting Patrick (after Olivia gives him a bit of a hard time, clearly trying to provoke him, seemingly repulsed with “gypsies”), sitting in a window while Roman is perched on a billiards table. Or when Patrick returns from his “wolf night”, plopping down in a chair as Roman asks him, “How was it?” I have noticed how these guys pose, smoke, converse, and react to each other…it is all almost quite theatrical. Patrick doesn’t just sit in a chair naturally. He models in a chair for the cinematographer. Skarsgård’s whole characterization and presence on the show is modeling and posing.
