Marathoning 2017/2018

Admittedly, the Syfy channel Twilight Zone marathon is more of a tradition at this point in my life, ceremonial and playing in the background for me while I do this or that. Syfy treats it as ceremonial, and perhaps uses it to offer their new content. I’ve grown more than a bit tired of Happy and The Magicians commercials. It seems like this year the advertisements and edit cuts into their episodes is worse than ever before. They have done a clever job of little bits including the description of episodes in six words. Selection of certain episodes and their place in the marathon (THE BEWITCHIN’ POOL, THE SELF-IMPORTANCE OF SALVADORE ROSS & THE ENCOUNTER received plum spots during the afternoon/evening instead of much better episodes like THE SILENCE & MIRROR IMAGE, THE HOWLING MAN & WHERE IS EVERBODY?) has been astonishing to me, or perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised. In conversations with others, we have figured that the selection process wasn’t exactly all that important to Syfy. Just the same, nearly all the classics have made the prime viewing period of the marathon’s peak hours. I use the marathon oftentimes to determine what my next episodes will be for the blog. I had thought about THE MASKS for some time now before the marathon. But late last night before Midnight hit New Years I knew that it would be one of the next reviews I can’t wait to write when the time comes. Today THE MIGHTY CASEY was on and I laughed at some of the back and forth between manager and owner of a fledgling baseball team, floundering before a robot with a wicked pitch lent them hope for the playoffs. I knew it would be in line along with THE MASKS. What is particularly thrilling to me is that these marathons remind me that I have a lot of iconic episodes I still haven’t put together write-ups for so the anticipation still remains for the likes of LITTLE GIRL LOST, PEOPLE ARE ALIKE ALL OVER, & THE AFTER HOURS. Speaking of THE AFTER HOURS, it was my first Twilight Zone for the New Year and will probably be the fourth TZ write-up coming soon for the blog and it remains a major favorite of mine. THE MIDNIGHT SUN was shown a bit too early in the day on New Years Eve for my liking. If anything perhaps it should have been saved for Midnight after the 1st of January. Again, expecting Syfy to put serious effort into the arrangement of TZ episodes in their two-day marathon is perhaps all for naught.

Well, at 10:30, after Eye of the Beholder, I'll consider this another fun marathon. Most of the classic episodes once again caught on television. It will be on to some write-ups later in the week and a hiatus from the show for a bit.
