next up: a trip to camp
Next on my slasher summer journey through 2013 (to
culminate in August with a Slumber Party Massacre double feature of 1 & 2)
is the sequel to Sleepaway Camp, Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers, with Pamela
Springsteen taking the young adult part of Felicia Rose’s character of Angela, now a totally
psychotic camp counselor who, when provoked by those obnoxious and annoying to
her, kills off teens (I use the term “teens” loosely here) in a number of ways.
The poster for the film always fascinated me; I had always wondered if perhaps
it was done up prior to filming due to the fact that the woman on the cover is
uninvolved with the film, although the slasher genre iconography on display is
catchy. I think there was a lot of emphasis on getting the box art just right
so that people would rent the product, regardless of how quality the films
themselves are. I still lament this lost art. I have noticed that low budget
filmmakers are attempting to return to it, though, so there’s a hope here by me
for a resurgence in returning to those good old days when we, as horror fans,
are manipulated all nice and proper like into viewing films even if they suck.
