Night Gallery

This show capitalized a lot more on Serling's presence as a presenter than his contribution as a writer. He has some works in the show he could be proud of, but overall Night Gallery isn't remotely close to the quality or prestige of The Twilight Zone. Like anthology shows of its nature, there are good episodes, mediocre episodes, and poor episodes. Certain episodes featured multiple stories with varied degrees of quality. Sometimes the tales themselves were up and down with highs and lows. Some were just flat or uninspired. Serling, unfortunately, is tied to the show and when it is less than spectacular those disappointing thoughts retreating back to Twilight Zone emerge. Why isn't NG as good as TZ? It's a given. However, being as big a fanboy of TZ as I am, even I must acknowledge that the classic show had its lemons as well. Watch the awful The Bewitchin' Pool for such an example. So taking an objective look at Night Gallery, putting aside TZ and looking at the…

Batman vs. Superman vs. Lex Luthor vs. Doomsday vs. Popular Opinion

Some random ass quick thought.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!

Although the movie went old school with reintroducing Doomsday, I thought it was a clever bit of business to have Luthor, in the antsy, twitchy, nervy but diabolical method by Heisenberg, be its creator, plying his blood with the DNA of General Zod. A concoction of "bad genes" and a half breed to boot, if you hit it was energy it just gets stronger and  obliterates everything in its path with a dome burst of laser lightning and shock waves.

Gotham and Metropolis don't seem to be far apart, or it didn't feel like it to me. The DC Universe affords Bruce Wayne the chance to own a building/business that is decimated by Zod and Superman's battle in Metropolis. He loses a good friend and employee in that devastated building. Dodge commercials have exploited the big Wayne SUV drive through Metropolis, and his employee's losing his legs provides some storyline incentive to question whether or not Superman is actually …

The 21st of April

Mr. Machen tells a ghost story:
11:55, almost midnight. Enough time for one more story. One more story before 12:00, just to keep us warm. In five minutes, it will be the 21st of April. One hundred years ago on the 21st of April, out in the waters around Spivey Point, a small clipper ship drew toward land. Suddenly, out of the night, the fog rolled in. For a moment, they could see nothing, not a foot in front of them. Then, they saw a light. By God, it was a fire burning on the shore, strong enough to penetrate the swirling mist. They steered a course toward the light. But it was a campfire, like this one. The ship crashed against the rocks, the hull sheared in two, mars snapped like a twig. The wreckage sank, with all the men aboard. At the bottom of the sea, lay the Elizabeth Dane, with her crew, their lungs filled with salt water, their eyes open, staring to the darkness. And above, as suddenly as it come, the fog lifted, receded back across the ocean and never came again. But it …

NXT Takeover: Dallas

Prior to Wrestlemania, an event is now scheduled for a vocally supported, passionately followed "yellow" WWE brand, based in Florida, at Full Sale University called NXT. It offers a particular audience their own group of wrestling talents to cheer or boo, in a smaller venue.  It can be said that the energy and enthusiasm of this smaller venue, and more streamlined stories that go in more clearly defined directions, are being to trump the more bloated product of its main roster.
